Most seniors need to take dietary supplements to help them live long and productive lives. Seniors tend to have special health needs as well, many of which can be addressed with the right supplements. However, if seniors took all the supplements available to them, they could be taking pills and powders all day long. It is best to whittle down the list to the ones most needed. Here are some of the best.

Vitamin B12

Anemia can be a problem for older adults. People with the form of anemia found most in the elderly have fewer red blood cells, but each cell is larger. The B12 deficiency can cause problems with balance, numbness, and confusion. It can even lead to a form of dementia. Vitamin B12 supplements can be a great help in overcoming this anemia.

Calcium and Vitamin D

Seniors may need calcium to prevent the loss of bone density. Vitamin D helps them absorb the calcium. Vitamin D deficiencies are also linked with cardiovascular diseases, so supplementation may be a good idea.

Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and flax oils are more important than ever in later years. Coenzyme Q10 may be touted as an anti-aging supplement, but it is most proven as an aid to good heart health. Seniors who are concerned about their heart health, or even seniors who already have heart damage, can benefit from CoQ10 dietary supplements.
