Philosophy on Exercise: Juliet Settlemier Ivey has been practicing and teaching Pilates since 2001. Prior to Pilates, she taught group exercise classes, including circuit training, high and low impact aerobics, body sculpting and other related cardio classes.
In teaching her Pilates Mat classes at Los Gatos Health & Fitness, Juliet focuses not only on the correct form of each exercise and performing each exercise in the safest manner, but also on the mind-body connection and the healing aspects of the Pilates Method. Juliet sees herself as a “healer”, and as a role model for those clients who want to improve body tone, alignment, posture and overall life attitude. Using the mind to focus on the structural alignment of the body and the exercise movements that originate from the core muscle groups, Juliet teaches her clients to practice Pilates in a state of consciousness that drives 30% more benefit than other folks who may mindlessly perform exercises in the gym. Working as efficiently as possible, with mind engagement, clients perform focused and intentional movements that drive postural & body alignment shifts, creating changes that are visible to the naked eye. Juliet’s style and passion is not for the weak minded, as she encourages every client to work to his/her exercise threshold, yet not beyond. It is Juliet's ultimate goal to transfer her knowledge to clients in such a way that they can "take it with them" and incorporate their learnings and postural changes into their everyday life, after they leave their one hour class with Juliet.
About Juliet: Juliet is a mother of two children, 7 and 10 years old, lives in Los Gatos, and recently left her Sales VP job to spend more time with her children and to teach and study Pilates more. She is currently working with Balanced Body University to gain greater knowledge of current and up-to-date Pilates exercises and techniques. In Juliet’s spare time, Juliet likes to attend spin classes, hike, read, volunteer at school, attend school field trips and work on a variety of word puzzles and games, both individually and with her children.
